Board of Trustees, Superintendent, Teacher, and Principal standing in meeting room

On Monday, September 18, it was the week of Homecoming, and most of us were dressed like superheroes. However, Floresville South Elementary had a real-life superhero.

One of our instructional aids was choking on her food in the lunchroom. Mrs. Brown, who had just removed her cape so that she could eat, quickly sprang into action and performed the Heimlich maneuver on her colleague.

The person whose life was saved that day says, “I believe we have angels working in our schools.” She says she should have died that day, is now living on “over time,” and stops by Mrs. Brown's room each morning to thank her for saving her life and allowing her to live another day.

Mrs. Brown's bravery and fast actions are a prime example of Floresville ISD's core belief that helping one another strengthens our community. We thank her for her service, dedication, and compassion to our students, staff, and community.
