Students and teacher holding certificate in front of board members

Floresville ISD announced the Teacher and Students of the Month for September.

Nikki Kalcevic, STEM teacher at Floresville North Elementary, was named Teacher of the Month. Mrs. Kalcevic joined our campus just last year. She has a Bachelors in Arts in EC-6 General Education, a Masters in Art Education w/ an emphasis in Leadership, and a National Board Certification in Art. Mrs. Kalcevic said, “Teaching STEM is a natural evolution for me as I’ve always loved science and integrating technology while also encouraging the creative process that encompasses engineering and design. I want students to explore and see how creativity and STEM are a part of everyday life.” One of her students said, “I always look forward to going to STEM because I get to be creative and solve problems. Mrs. Kalcevic helps us learn about the world and how different cultures build stuff in their different countries.” Her colleagues say, “she goes above and beyond to create a positive learning environment where her students feel comfortable experimenting, making mistakes, and learning from them.” and “Nikki is an amazing, compassionate and kind human who encourages her students to think outside the box.” One of Mrs. Kalcevic’s favorite quotes is “I am who I am not yet” because she believes we can always become a better version of ourselves by learning through our experiences and by being aware of ourselves and our environments. FNE is thankful to have Mrs. Kalcevic to give our students a hands-on, creative, and social approach to learning.

Liana Fuentes is one of two Students of the Month. Liana is a top-notch student who strives for excellence each and every day. She currently serves as Secretary for our Capturing Kids Hearts Jr. Caring Crew and participates in the Gifted and Talented program. As an avid volleyball fan, she attends Jaguar volleyball games and plays at Hill’s Gym for La Vernia ROX. In the Spring, she also plays softball for La Vernia Bears. When not playing with her teams, she enjoys going outside to play sports with her family. FNE staff describe her as “a natural leader who is smart as a whip, and say, this girl is going places.” Liana’s peers say she is smart, kind, and fun and that she challenges them to do their best. In the future she plans to attend Baylor University and would eventually like to be a lawyer. She says she may follow in her mom’s footsteps at St. Mary’s University for her law degree.

Ezra Flores is the second Student of the Month. Ezra is a 5th grade dual language student who participates in GT and serves as Historian for Jr. Caring Crew. Ezra has also been a Paige on the Peanut Festival Court. He also participates in activities as a member of the Catholic Church in Poth. In his free time, he likes to play video games, spend time with family, and play basketball or soccer. His teacher said, “Ezra is an example of a great student and leader. He comes to school with a positive attitude, is respectful to everyone, and puts his best effort in all he does.” Ezra’s peers say he is always kind to them, helps others to be kind, and knows a lot about video games. Perhaps fittingly, Ezra plans to work in cybersecurity when he is older because he wants to stop hackers from getting into things they shouldn’t.

Congratulations to our Teacher and Students of the Month!
